How to Build Your Wedding Registry
Wedding registries are all part of the fun for engaged couples, but creating one can feel daunting at times. We have guided couples through building the perfect registry list and how to avoid the clutter. Unless you’re furnishing an entire home and have been living with parents or roommates and don’t own a thing, chances are you have some of the essentials. Curation is key here, so we give you our best tips for how to build your wedding registry.
Tackle your registry early.
You will likely have at least an engagement party or one shower where you will be gifted items from the list. If you wait to register, you’ll likely end up with items you don’t want or need.
Choose a good mix of more practical items and only a few trendy/ fun pieces.
Your tastes will change, so go with the classics. Versatile and neutral furniture pieces can be accented seasonally with throws and pillows. Classic white dinner plates and towels can be brightened by other linens and trendy items.
Pick items at various price points, from smaller gifts like cooking utensils to one big piece of essential furniture.
Most of your registry items will likely fall in the $20-$50 price point. Smalls are great fillers for your MOH’s baking-themed basket, while your Aunt Susie may want to contribute to the big-ticket item.
Go for quality over quantity.
“Investing” in the best items for you will ensure you’re not having to replace the goods in a year or two. This goes for small appliances, cookware, and furniture.
Think outside the home, like tools or luggage.
From speaker systems to video doorbells, gadgets and gizmos a-plenty have become more and more popular. Outdoor seating and fire pits are making the list, too.
You will not receive every single item on your list, but you may receive money or gift cards and can purchase the final bits at the end.
Don’t forget to add those gift cards onto the list!
Many retailers offer completion discounts, a % off items you purchase from your own list.
Check with each store or site before you sign up to see what perks they have to offer.
