A Winter Affair | An Editorial
Several years ago, in collaboration with Holly Carlisle of Rosegolden, we explored the most exquisite palette for a wedding – moody, rich, and jewel-toned. We wanted it to feel deeply romantic and highlight the beauty of a garden setting, even in early winter. Here is the story behind this editorial, which was featured on 100 Layer Cake and in print in Weddings Unveiled.
Jewel and berry tones have a dramatic and sensual quality that we both found very inspiring. Using bold color can be intimidating so we wanted to explore those tones and textures to show how they can be combined in an eclectic, graceful, and balanced way.
From a styling perspective, much of the inspiration for this shoot came from the balance in weight, color, and texture. Where we had ink candles, we chose some blush florals. With soft, fleshy figs, we added hard walnuts. Delicate glassware is anchored with petrified wood, almost stone-like coasters. We chose a bulky wood table and set it with wiry bistro chairs. A tulle- drenched gown balanced a perfectly structured suit. Every element had an opposite counterpart.
